RESTORATION ATELIER
PRESERVING CRAFTSMANSHIP ACROSS GENERATIONS
Every historic chandelier carries a story — of the era that created it, the spaces it has illuminated, and the hands that shaped it.
Our Restoration Atelier exists to honour that story: to revive brilliance, preserve authenticity and ensure that the finest luminaires of the past continue to grace the interiors of the future.
EXPERTISE IN CHANDELIER RESTORATION
The Bakalowits Restoration Atelier is a global reference for the restoration, preservation and revival of chandeliers and luminaires from every era. With more than a century of archival knowledge and artisanal expertise, our atelier restores brilliance, structural integrity and electrical safety while honouring the original character of each piece. Whether a luminaire requires subtle refinement or a complete reconstruction, we ensure it can continue to shine for generations to come.
GLOBAL EXPERTISE & PROJECT ACCESSIBILITY
Our atelier supports clients worldwide. Chandelier restoration projects can be evaluated through detailed photography or through an on-site assessment by our specialists. Depending on the scope, restorations can be carried out directly at the client’s location or the luminaire can be transported to our Vienna atelier for comprehensive treatment. Each luminaire begins with an individual assessment. Based on this evaluation, we recommend the appropriate restoration scope.

PARTIAL RESTORATION
Individual scopes that can be carried out independently:
• Electrical
• Crystal/Glass

• Component Reconstruction
ELECTRICAL SAFETY REQUIREMENT
For safety and liability reasons, any luminaire entering our atelier must meet current electrical standards. If electrical components are damaged, outdated or unsafe, an electrical restoration is a required first step before any other work can proceed. This ensures the luminaire is safe to operate and compliant with modern regulations.
HISTORIC LUMINAIRES
Many Bakalowits chandeliers have illuminated palaces, theatres, luxury hotels and private residences for decades or even centuries. Our atelier specialises in restoring these historic pieces with the utmost respect for their provenance. Using original drawings, archival references and traditional techniques, we preserve the authenticity of each luminaire while ensuring it meets today’s safety standards.
RECONSTRUCTION & CUSTOM PARTS
When components are missing, damaged beyond repair or require faithful reproduction, our atelier can recreate them using original moulds, hand-cut crystal techniques and historically accurate metalwork. This capability allows us to restore even the rarest and most unique luminaires to their full integrity.
CONSULTATION & ASSESSMENT
Before any restoration begins, our specialists provide a detailed evaluation of the luminaire’s condition, including structural, electrical and material considerations. This assessment forms the basis for a tailored chandelier restoration plan aligned with the piece’s history, intended use and architectural context.
