Reconstruction of the Vienna State Opera.
During the post war reconstruction of the Vienna State Opera, Bakalowits was appointed to develop and produce the new lighting for both the Gustav Mahler Hall and the Marmor Hall.
The design for the Gustav Mahler Hall was created in close collaboration with architect Ceno Kosak, then President of the Academy of Applied Arts. The Marmor Hall lighting, in turn, was developed together with Otto Prossinger.
Although each architect approached the project with a distinct artistic vision, Bakalowits succeeded in delivering two coherent yet individually expressive lighting solutions — a testament to the house’s versatility, craftsmanship, and ability to translate differing architectural languages into enduring works of light.
